Fabian Zimmer

Biography

Fabian Zimmer studied history and German philology at the universities of Heidelberg and Lund. His research focuses on the cultural history of technology and the environment, as well as on the history of science and medicine in nineteenth and twentieth century Europe. He graduated from Heidelberg University in 2016 with a master's thesis on narratives of water power in early twentieth-century Sweden. Since 2012, he has worked as a student research assistant at the Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine at Heidelberg University in two projects: one on utility films in the Upper Rhine region and the other on the implementation of prenatal diagnosis in the FRG in the second half of the twentieth century. Fabian Zimmer joined the Rachel Carson Center’s doctoral program in April 2017, continuing his exploration into the cultural history of water power in twentieth-century Europe. His research is funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU).
