Biography
Dr. Thomas Südhof is a German and American citizen. He is a medical graduate from the University of Göttingen Medical School and the University of Aachen (Germany). Thomas Südhof has been an independent director of Sanofi since 2016. He holds the Avram Goldstein Chair in the Faculty of Medicine at Stanford University as well as Professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Psychiatry and Neurology. He has also worked 25 years for Southwestern University in Texas where he directed the Department of Neuroscience. Most of his research has focused on the mechanisms of synaptic transmissions that have pharmaceutical implications for the treatment of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. Dr. Südhof won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (with James Rothman and Randy Shekman) in 2013, as well as the Albert Lasker Prize for Basic Research in Medicine with Richard Scheller and the Bernard Katz Prize of the Biophysical Society (with Reinhard Jahn)
