Biography
The research activities of Prof. Pail (1972) cover topics of physical and numerical geodesy, with the focus on global and regional modeling of the gravitational field of the earth and satellite gravitational field emissions. Models of the earth's gravity field play a crucial role in the definition of altitude systems and provide important contributions to the monitoring of climate-relevant mass transport processes, such as ocean circulation, sea level rise or melting of ice masses, as well as geophysical modeling of the earth's interior. After studying geophysics at the University of Vienna, he received a doctorate in engineering sciences from the Graz University of Technology (Graz University of Technology) and became a professor at the University of Graz in 2002. Until 2009, he worked as an extraordinary university professor at Graz University of Technology. In 2010 Prof. Pail was appointed to the Chair of Astronomical and Physical Geodesy at TUM. Prof. Pail is President of the International Association of Geodesy Commission 2 "Gravity Field" and a member of various national and international committees.
