Bernhard Küster
Professor
Proteomics and bioanalysis
Technische University Munich
Germany
Biography
Prof. Küster (1967) conducts research in the field of chemical and functional proteome analysis. The focus is on questions as to how proteins interact with one another or with pharmaceutical active ingredients, which molecular mechanisms play a role in cancer diseases and how these can be used for individual therapeutic approaches. Technically, these research areas are supported by chemical and biochemical methods, as well as spectroscopic and bioinformatic high-throughput processes. After studying chemistry (University of Cologne), Prof. Küster was promoted to biochemistry at the University of Oxford and subsequently postdoc in Heidelberg and Odense, Denmark. Prior to joining TUM, he was vice president of the biotech company Cellzome AG in Heidelberg until 2007. Prof. Küster is the spokesman of the Department of Biosciences at TUM and a member of the Graduate School Experimental Medicine. His research is supported, among other things, by the Cluster of Excellence CIPSM (Center for Integrated Protein Science Munich), the DKTK (German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research) and the pharmaceutical industry. Prof. Küster is the founder of the biotech company OmicScouts GmbH.
