Biography
Carina Elsner performed her Bachelor thesis in 2010 at the University of Bremen. In 2012 she received her Master degree in Biomedicine at Hannover Medical School. The topic of her master thesis was the characterization of the regulation of the alternative polyadenylation in HIV-1. A Leonardo Da Vinci fellowship offered her the possibility to spend six months in Prof. Greg Towers´ lab at University College London to study the role of Cyclophilin C during HIV-1 infection. In May 2013, she started her PhD thesis at Hannover Medical School in the group of Dr. Jens Bohne. Within the PhD program ‘Molecular Medicine’ she was studying the human host restriction factor TRIM5? and how its regulated expression may be exploited to prevent HIV-1 infection. In August 2017 she started working as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Goffinet, her work is focusing on cGAS-mediated DNA sensing in the context of HIV-1 infection.
