Biography
Luis Almeida has completed his Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, at Faculty of Science - University of Lisbon. During his Master thesis, he worked at Instituto de Medicina Molecular - Lisboa, in the field of mucosal immunology, under the supervision of Dr. Henrique Veiga-Fernandes. He focused on the function of a receptor for neurotrophic factors in ILC3s and in its relevance in the maintenance of the intestinal homeostasis, obtaining experience in several Immunology and Molecular Biology techniques. He has graduated in 2015 and has now joined Twincore, where he is doing his PhD in the field of Immunometabolism under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tim Sparwasser, as part of the ENLIGHT-TEN network. His focus now lies on unraveling how the metabolic pathways of immune cells are important in their function and how they can be manipulated in order to modulate T cell responses.
