Biography
In 2015, Sergej Franz completed his master studies in Technical Biology at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He performed his bachelor thesis in 2012 at the Paul-Ehrlich Institute in Langen. In the research group "AIDS, New and Emerging Pathogens" headed by Prof. Barbara Schnierle, he investigated the ability of CHIKV E2 mutants to initiate cell transduction. Sergej Franz accomplished his master thesis in the research group of Prof. Robert Tampé in the field of cellular biochemistry at the Goethe University of Frankfurt. The main aspect of his study was the biochemical and structural characterization of US6 cTAP fusion proteins. Since February 2015, Sergej Franz is working as a PhD student in the research group of Prof. Goffinet on the still elusive process of viral entry of CHIKV and on antiviral restriction factors which inhibit the late stage of the HIV-1 replication cycle. In October 2015, he has been accepted in the PhD program Infection Biology/DEWIN at the Hannover Medical School.
