Biography
Dr. Martin Wirtz is an Academic Council at the Chair for the Control of Innovative and Complex Technical Systems. He studied at the Maastricht Universities (BA European Studies, Graduation 2010, M.Sc. European Studies, Graduation 2012) and Cologne (MA Politikwissenschaftschaft, Abschluss 2012). From 2013 to 2017, he has been a member of the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences (BAGSS) at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at the Otto-Friedrich-University in Bamberg. His dissertation deals with conflict structures in the European Parliament and the question of the extent to which the national party delegations represented therein give in to so-called "national interests" at the expense of their respective ideology. He is particularly interested in the connection between thematic-specific framework conditions such as uncertainty and distribution effects on the one hand, and the communication strategies of the deputies (in particular "framing") on the other. During his master's degree, he also worked on the licensing of innovative medical devices and genetically modified organisms by competent EU agencies. The main focus of this publication was the processing of information in the approval process, especially its political influence and its effects. His position at the chair of Prof. Dr. He uses Gerrits to build on his interdisciplinary studies, as well as illuminating decisions taken at purely EU level and from a holistic perspective under purely "technical" aspects. Not least, he is committed to the implementation of modern interactive teaching methods (so-called problem-based learning, PBL). In his spare time, he likes sports, cooking passionately or watching movies or TV series like "Jurassic Park" or "House of Cards". Among his favorite books include "views of a clown" by Heinrich Böll and "Wolf Hall" by Hilary Mantel.
