Biography
Steven Higgins took over the management of the Department of Plant Ecology at the University of Bayreuth in 2017. Before that he was Professor of Botany at the University of Otago (2013-2017) and Professor of Physical Geography at the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (2007-2013). Higgins received a BSc in Botany and Zoology (1991) and BSc Honors in Botany (1992) from the University of Witwatersrand and a PhD in Botany from the University of Cape Town (1998). Steven Higgins explores the processes that determine the distribution and dynamics of plants and the role that plants play in the Earth system. The aim of his research is to develop ways to predict the future conditions of the land surface. Higgins' recent contribution to the journal Ecosystems summarizes his current research agenda.
