Biography
Harald Schmidt co-founded vasopharm in 1998 and was for two years its first CEO. He is currently Chair of Pharmacology and Personalised Medicine at Maastricht University, Netherlands, leads research programs as European Research Council Advanced Investigator, a Proof-of-Concept and a EUROSTAR programme, and is Chair of a European Science Foundation COST Action on Systems Medicine. He had previously worked in Australia, Germany and USA in different academic and business leadership positions. These include chair of Monash University’s Centre for Vascular Health, Australia, co-leader of Maastricht University’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences innovation platform, Netherlands, and a drug discovery CRO at TransMIT, Giessen, Germany. His research focuses on disease mechanisms, target validation, drug and biomarker discovery, personalised and network medicine. Professor Schmidt has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, books and patents. He is Section Editor of the Public Library of Science and member oft he editorial board of Nature’s Scientific Reports. He has been awarded the Roche Molecular Biochemicals Research Prize for Cell Biology, the Phoenix Research Prize in Pharmacy, and the Pro Scientia Prize.
