Biography

Mr Kwabena Owusu Asubonteng is UNU-INRA’s Research Fellow for Geo-Information Systems (GIS). He holds a Master of Science degree in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation from the International Institute of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (Netherlands) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana) and a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Mr Asubonteng has over six years professional experience in the areas of forest management, community mobilisation for natural resource generation, satellite image interpretation, spatial analysis, landscape fragment analysis and field mapping. Prior to joining UNU-INRA, he was GIS manager for APERL GIS Training and Research Centre, which he established as part of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) funded project, APERL Ghana project (2009-2011). His duties included community resource mapping, satellite image interpretation, developing and teaching courses in geographic information systems and remote sensing. He served as a GIS and research assistant on a GEF/UNDP/GOG funded project, SLaM (2007-2008) and as a communication/research assistant with Tropenbos International, Ghana (2003-2005). Mr Asubonteng has consulted as a natural resource and GIS expert for private companies and NGOs and has also contributed to publications on natural resources management in Ghana and beyond.
