Biography

One of the proud products of the Ghana Institute of Journalism is Mr. Kow Payin Nkesia-Richardson. A native of Ekumffi in the Central Region of Ghana, he is currently a Public Relations Officer at the Takoradi Technical University. Mr Nkesia-Richardson satirically refers to himself as a “village boy”. He always aspired to become a PR Practitioner and by diligently pursuing a communication study in GIJ, he has seen this dream come true. He currently has over 9 years of experience in the Public Relations field. He started his elementary education at the Ekumpoano Catholic School where he also completed his Junior Secondary School. He continued to the Ajumaku Mando Secondary School and took his Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) there. He applied for a diploma course in the Ghana Institute of Journalism and gained admission in 2005. While in school, he had the opportunity to serve as an intern in the Daily Guide in 2006. After attaining his Diploma in Mass Communication, he worked at the Takoradi Polytechnic Public Relations Office as a National Service Personnel. Asides this, he was a Western Regional Correspondent for the Methodist Times in Accra. He has also worked with Melody FM in Takoradi. Despite his Diploma, Mr. Nkesia-Richardson kept pursing further education to improve his knowledge. He holds a degree in communication Studies (Public Relation) from GIJ, a degree in psychology and Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Masters from the University of Cape coast. Mr. Nkesia-Richardson believes, that “Success is measured by the difficulties that one has been able to overcome but not the position that one occupies” He emphasized in an interview with gijonlinenews.com, “when I worked for the media houses, I did not depend on assignments to have my stories, while I walk around, I make up a story from what I see around in the society”. He advised present students of GIJ to stay focused, study hard and know the basic theories of communication in both Public Relation and Journalism. He attributed the impact he can make today to the knowledge he gained in GIJ.
