Biography

This is the quote Babatunde, an alumnus of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), believes in and to him, it is very important. Novieku-Babatunde Adeola K. was born to a Ghanaian father and a Nigerian mother but identifies as a Nigerian because he was born in Nigeria. He had his basic education at the Grammy Primary School in Nigeria and continued to Kings College for his Junior High and Senior High School education in Lagos. He later came to Ghana and attended the African University College of Communications (AUCC) for a year, where he studied Journalism. In his quest for more knowledge, he enrolled in the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and earned a B.A. in Communications Studies in 2015. He was the Vice-President of the Efua Sutherland Hall and Head of the Sports Department because of his love for sports, during his stay in GIJ. Babatunde has worked in so many places as a Journalist. After graduating from GIJ, he worked with Viasat 1 TV, now Kwesé Free Sports and also worked briefly at Live 91.9 FM. He is currently working with 3 Music Network, an entertainment network which gives content to TV3 and also airs on DSTV. He also works with Event Guide, where he handles marketing and hosts the ‘Loaded Mama’ show on Hot FM. According to him, his career has been very interesting and challenging because he has been to so many places and worked with so many people. “This has exposed me to a lot of experiences, people and a lot of things,” he said. “It is an interesting challenge for me because I have always been the website and reporting guy but now I have switched to social media which I believe adds a little diversity to my career. Looking at where technology is taking us, if you don’t know how to handle social media as a journalist, you will be handicapped as compared to other journalists who have made their name and have a very large presence on social media,” He added. Babatunde expects to attain a height where he feels accomplished in life (physically and spiritually) and professionally. “Ghana has been my strong stepping stone to greatness. I have learnt a lot and will forever cherish my time in Ghana but I plan to go back to Nigeria to build my career because the industry in Nigeria is quite larger, as compared Ghana.” he revealed. Novieku-Babatunde Adeola K. recommends that others should attend GIJ, because he thinks it is the traditional premier Journalism school in Ghana which has been able to set a standard for itself. According to him, the school has been able to groom and produce a lot of reputable journalists in Ghana and has highly knowledgeable lecturers who relate to students well. He also advised upcoming young student journalists to open themselves to new ideas, “be willing and passionate about the job, read wide and believe in God. God is the benchmark of every successful person and dedication to Him is the key,” he said.
