Biography

“The beginning of a healthy adventure is not an easy one, but with commitment, determination and perseverance, one can achieve his his/her aim in life”. Meet Stephen Kofi Obeng, a GIJ alumnus, born on 15th January, 1993 in OSU but grew up in Teshie. Obeng had his basic education at Teshie St John's Preparatory School. He continued to St Thomas Aquinas Senior High School at Cantonments where he studied visual arts for four years; from 2007 to 2011. Stephen gained admission to the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) in 2013, where he pursued a B.A in communications, specializing in Journalism from 2013 to 2017. He explained his four years in the institution as "an interesting experience, learning and gaining knowledge from most lecturers in and outside the classroom setting." He joined the Separation of Environmental Journalists in level 100, which was launched by musician Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Mr. Jonas Anson Kodwo Boateng, a lecturer of the Institute. He expressed his challenges during his stay in school as including the less spacious library which he specified made the place less assessable. Stephen's final words of encouragement were: "The beginning of a healthy adventure is not an easy one but with commitment, determination and perseverance one can be able to achieve his/her aim in life, so petty challenges should not be seen as just impediments but lessons of success".
