Biography
Pam Cheng is Executive Vice President of Global Operations & IT at AstraZeneca since June 2015. In this role, she is responsible for all manufacturing, supply chain, procurement & IT operations globally for the company. In addition, Pam serves on the Board of Directors for Codexis, an industrial biotechnology company based in California, USA. Prior to AstraZeneca, Pam spent nearly 18 years with Merck & Co., Inc. Pam was President of MSD (Merck) in China, responsible for MSD's entire business in the country. Prior to her role in China, Pam was Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain Management & Logistics, responsible for managing Merck's supply chains around the world. In the early part of her career at Merck, Pam held responsibilities in Process Development & Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, & Supply Chain. Pam also held various Engineering and Project Management positions at Universal Oil Products (UOP), Union Carbide Corporation and GAF Chemicals prior to Merck. Pam holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA in Marketing from Pace University in the United States.
Research Interest
Pam Cheng has served as a director of Codexis since November 2014. Ms. Cheng brings to our board of directors experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and conducting business in Asia, as well as senior management and financial operations experience. Ms. Cheng currently serves as Executive Vice President of Operations and IT at AstraZeneca, where she is responsible for manufacturing operations, supply chain, procurement and information technology globally. Prior to joining AstraZeneca Ms. Cheng was a 17-year veteran of Merck & Co., where she most recently served as President of MSD China, covering a wide functional scope that included commercial, research & development, manufacturing and various business support organizations. Prior to serving as President of MSD China, Ms. Cheng served as Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain Management for Merck in New Jersey, with overall end-to-end supply chain oversight for its human health, vaccines, and consumer care businesses globally. Before Merck, Ms. Cheng held operational roles at GAF Chemicals and UOP/Union Carbide. Ms. Cheng received an MBA in Marketing from Pace University in New York and her Bachelor and Masters of Chemical Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. She has also earned Six Sigma Executive Belt Certification
