Biography
Francesco E. Pontieri is Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at the Department NESMOS, Sapienza University of Rome. He is currently the Chief of The Movement Disorder Unit of the Sant’Andrea University Hospital in Rome, and Research Neurologist at the Santa Lucia Foundation. He participated a number of clinico-pharmacological trials on motor and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, and has organized and coordinated several open label observational and interventional studies in patients suffering from neurodegenerative disorders, and parkinsonisms in particular. In the last years his research activity included structural and functional neuroimaging in neurodegenerative disorders, methodological and instrumental investigations of cardiovascular autonomic failure in parkinsonian syndromes, and investigations on the correlation between central and peripheral changes of dopaminergic markers in degenerative parkinsonisms.
