Biography

EDUCATION POST - GRADUATED STUDIES DIPLOMAS Degree in Medicine July 1990 University of Crete (8.36, 1 st of the class) PhD January 2001 University of Crete Board in Medical Oncology 2006 My studies in medicine were realised in the Medical Faculty of the University of Crete. I began my doctoral thesis under the supervisi on of Prof. O . Manousos and after his retirement under the supervision of Prof. I . Blachonikoli s . After my first two years of specialisat ion in Internal Medicine , I served as a supernumerary Doctor of the University Hospital of Heraklion. As such, I was placed in the D epartment of Med ical Oncology of the hospital where the conduct ion of the cooperative international studies of the departmen t was assigned to me . This was my first contact with the object of clinical research . Since then th is particular object constitutes one from my inquiring interests and I have dealt with all spectrum of clinical investigation (planning, co ncretisation, control, analysis and report). I continued working as M D of clinical studies in Med ical Oncology after the expiry of my appointment with the hospital and until 2001, with a short interval. From 200 1 , I began my specialization in Medical Oncology, first as a resident in Hematology for 6 months and afterwards as a resident in the Med ical Oncology. After examination, in December 2005 I received t he title of the Medical Oncology S peciality . . During my specialization , I enjoyed a scholarship from the Hellenic So ciety of Medical Oncology (HESMO) and work ed in the Laboratory of Germans Trias i Pujol, Universitat Autonomus de Barcelona (5/2003 - 12/2003) under the supervision of P rofessor R Rosell. Furthermore, during my specialization, I was accept ed and I followed t he educational program of the Masterclass in Oncology of the European School of Oncology ( in year 2004 ) and the AACR course “Molecular Biology in Clinical Oncology” (in July 2006) . I was elected as lecturer of Medical Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine, U niversity of Crete in November 2006. I took a sabbatical year (from November 2007 - November 2008) at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (Harvard Medical School). I participate in a wide variety of events (congresses, seminars , workshops etc) as trainee as wel l as instructor.
