Biography
On completion of her first degree (1994) in Vegetal Production of the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, Dr. A. T. Paraskevopoulou pursued her studies further in the field of landscape architecture obtaining both a PhD (2000) and MA (2002) degree from the Department of Landscape, of The University of Sheffield, UK. Her first job as a landscape architect was with “Groundwork Dearne Valley” UK where she gained a large amount of experience within a limited amount of time as she had the opportunity to work simultaneously on various projects at various stages. Returning to her homeland she worked as a freelance landscape architect designing mainly private gardens. At the time she designed a Mediterranean garden for the Hellenic Pavilion at the World Exhibition of Horticulture at Horti-EXPO IGA 2003 in Rostock, Germany (25/4 -12/10/2003) that received the bronze award. In 2003 she was employed by the “Municipality of Athens – National Gardens” as an agriculturist and landscape architect and in 2008 by the Laboratory of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture of the AUA as a lecturer. In 2013 she became assistant professor. She has taught landscape design and construction at both undergraduate and graduate levels at the Agricultural University of Athens. She has participated in 11 research projects funded by either private or public bodies of the Hellenic State and focused in general on subjects related to the design, establishment and management of sustainable planting schemes for urban spaces and roof gardens. Amongst other publications she has 22 peer reviewed publications in international journals and conference proceedings, and 13 in national conference proceedings. Her research aims to identify social needs, enhance and protect historical sites, promote the use of native species and design aesthetically pleasing sustainable landscapes.
