Zervas George

Biography

George Zervas graduated (1974) with a BSc in Animal Sciences from the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece). He was appointed as Research Fellow in 1978 at the Dept of Nutritional Physiology and Feeding (Faculty of Animal Sciences and Aquaculture of the Agricultural University of Athens) and from 1980 to 1983 he did his PhD at the Dept of Animal Physiology and Nutrition in Leeds University of UK. He was then appointed as Lecturer (1984), Senior Lecturer (1989), Associate Professor (1996) and Professor (2001) at the Dept of Nutritional Physiology and Feeding of the Agricultural University of Athens. Head (since 2000) of the Dept of Nutritional Physiology and Feeding and Rector (2004-2010) of the Agricultural University of Athens. President of the Hellenic Society of Animal Sciences (since 2008) and Vice President of the European Association for Animal Production (since 2009). Member of the Editorial Board (Livestock Science, Animal Science Review) and reviewer of a number of Animal Science Journals (i.e. Anim. Feed Sci. Technol., Small Rum. Res., Animal, Livest. Sci. etc.). The current research interests are: trace element supply to ruminant animals, mineral bioavailability studies, energy and protein requirements of small ruminants, study of different production and feeding systems of ruminants in Greece, effect of different diets on milk yield, milk chemical composition and milk fat fatty acids profile, effect of plane of nutrition on reproductive performance of small ruminants, organic farming of ruminants.
