Biography
Manolis A. Benteniotis is Attorney-at-Law at the Supreme Court of Greece. He has also acted in the past as a journalist and possesses in-depth knowledge on issues of regional development. He holds a Ph.D. on Social and Political Sciences, and he is visiting Professor and Senior Advisor of the European University of Cyprus. Man. A. Benteniotis has pursued studies in Law, Political Science and Public Administration. He has also academic exposure in Philosophy and Theology. His postgraduate studies centered firstly on Regional Development (Msc) and secondly on Environmental Protection (Msc), while he completed his thesis on “Integrated Peripherals Decentralized Greek, National Social Insurance System and its contribution to the development of the country.” Man. A. Benteniotis has taught in the graduate department of the National School of Public Health and in the Greek Air Force Academy. In addition, he has delivered lectures in the Postgraduate Programs of the University of Athens and the Technical Educational Institute (TEI) of Piraeus. Nowadays, he is teaching at the Faculty of Law of the European University of Cyprus. His writings include books, journals, studies and articles concerning the Local Self Government, Regional Development, Environmental Protection, Social Insurance and Social Policy. Two of his books are named as follows: “Naval Retirement Fund. Historical background. The crisis. The prospect, 2001, “Social Insurance reform and decentralization of the system”, 2004. He has also served as a Member of the Greek Parliament, elected in the constituency of Piraeus (1983-1985, 1990-1993, 1993-1996, 1996-2000, 2000-2004, 2009-2012), Deputy Minister of National Defense (23/11/1993 – 22/1/1996) and Deputy Minister of National Economy (22/1/1996 – 22/09/1996), Parliamentary Spokesman of PASOK and Deputy Governor of IKA and President of EOMMEX.
