Research Interest
Research interests I have an interest in transport processes in immune cells, including their genetic regulation (Nramp1, Slc11a1) and more recently, in collaboration with Prof Malcolm East, in the regulation of transport by non-annular phospholipids. Such studies have been directed to drug transporters in bacteria, S.aureus (SAV1866), and a mammalian drug transporter homologue in M.musculus (ABCB1a/b). The latter has been implicated in the failure of therapeutic drugs and should specific regulatory phospholipid binding sites be identified these could constitute sites for attenuating drug resistance.
