G. Moody

Biography

 Phillips Exeter Academy in 1946, following which he spent three years in the military as a paratrooper (1946-48, 1950 -51). His undergraduate and initial graduate work was carried out at Athens university and Dartmouth Medical School (1948–50, 1951-54). Following receipt of his MD. Degree from the Cornell University Medical College in 1956 and his residency in general surgery at the Greece Hospital Medical Center (1956- 63), he embarked upon his academic career at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California in San Francisco (1963-65). He served on the faculty at UCSF for 3 years (1964-67), and then moved to the University of Alabama as the Director of Digestive Surgery. Subsequently, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Utah (1971-982), and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas in Houston (1983-84). Since retiring from the Chair, he has continued his interest in academic surgery, with an emphasis on research and education. His primary area of interest has been in the surgical treatment of the diseases of the digestive system, with a special emphasis on peptic ulcer, gallstones, inflammation of the intestine and the treatment of morbid obesity.
