Biography
Dr. Alessia Baseggio Conrado was born in Rome, Italy, where she graduated in Biological Science in 2009 at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and later, in 2014, she obtained a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry. In 2017 she also achieved a Master’s degree in Managing and Planning Clinical Trial at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. Since 2015 she is a postdoc researcher in Photobiology Unit at the Cancer Division, Ninewells Hospital & Medical School of University of Dundee, where she works also as clinical trial manager coordinator. Her research project is aimed to study the role of sulfur amino acids as scavengers of reactive oxygen species and to better understand the oxidative pathway leading to taurine formation with a focus on the reactive intermediate species produced by the process. In the last years, her research interest has moved to understand the effect of sulfur natural compounds in protecting against damage caused by UV radiation (UVR) and exploring the direct and indirect mechanisms potentially involved. The study is funded by the British Skin Foundation (BSF/BPG01.1).
