Biography
Marvin Moroeng is currently busy with his PhD titled “Coal Oxidation – Insights into Elemental and Molecular changes in vitrinite- and inertinite-rich coals”. Oxidation has been found to have an adverse effect on various coal parameters such as calorific values, swelling, plasticity as well as coking and caking properties. In extreme cases, where heat evolved by the reactions between oxygen and the organic matter-rich material accumulates, spontaneous combustion may be triggered. The research project employs various analytical techniques to study the chemistry of the two most common maceral groups, namely vitrinite and inertinite and to track changes as oxidation progress. He completed his MSc in Geology at the University of Pretoria.
