Biography
Dr. Jun is a professor in the College of Pharmacy, Gachon University, Korea. Dr. Jun received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Chosun University, Korea in 1989. She trained as a postdoctoral fellow in Immunology and Virology, particularly in the field of type 1 diabetes research, at the Julia McFarlane Diabetes Research Centre, University of Calgary, Canada. Her research focused on understanding the pathogenic mechanisms of autoimmune type 1 diabetes and its prevention and treatment. Dr. Jun’s research interests moved to the regeneration of pancreatic beta-cells and cell therapy for treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Jun began this work as a research faculty member at the Chicago Medical School, USA. After she moved to Lee Gil Ya Cancer and Diabetes Research Institute, Gachon University, Dr. Jun has been primarily involved in studies on the development of new drugs for diabetes and metabolic diseases and providing leadership for drug discovery projects for diabetes and obesity. Her research interests also include understanding the pharmacological action mechanisms of anti-diabetic drugs.
