Biography
Dan Miller is Chair of the PIERCE Committee and is Head of School at the Wheeler School, Providence, Rhode Island – a Nursery through twelfth-grade, co-educational day school for 820 students. After graduating from Amherst College magna cum laude in 1985, Dan taught and coached for two years at St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn, New York. He went on to receive a MA and PhD in the History of American Civilization from Harvard University in 1993. His dissertation, a biography of the Southern author Erskine Caldwell, was published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1994. Dan was the Dean of Students at Riverdale Country School from 1993-1997 then the Head of Upper School at the Kent Denver School in Denver, Colorado from 1997-2003, before coming to Wheeler. He serves/has served on the Boards of several local non-profit organizations, including the Urban Collaborative School; the East Side YMCA; and Rhode Island Public Radio.
