Biography
Mi-La Cho is a associate professor of rheumatism research center (RhRC) and Conversant Research Consorcium in Immunologic disease (CRCID), The catholic university of korea, school of Medicine. She received a bachelor science degree at department of biotechnology in Korea university in 1997. She carried out graduate studies, at The catholic university, and received her PhD.(Clinical immunology) in 2002 for a doctoral thesis titled with the ' Cyclosporine inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor production in rheumatoid synovial fibroblasts.' In 2006, He joined the assistant professor in the Catholic Research Institute of Medical Science at the catholic university of korea. Ongoing studies in her research are aimed at elucidating the role of pathogenic Th17 cells in the rheumatoid arthritis synovial microenvironment and allograft dysfunction of transplantation. Final goal of her project is to develop novel therapeutic agent for immunological diseases. Immune biologic therapies may offer a means of restoring the Th17/Treg balance in favour of Tregs and thereby re-establishing immune tolerance. Modulation of STAT3 in CD4+ T cells affected the differentiation of Th17 and Treg in patients and animal models with RA. Such role of STAT3 in RA synovial T cells may give a new therapeutic target for the control of RA
