Biography
Joe Gisondi, professor of journalism at Eastern Illinois University, earned his Masters of Fine Arts in creative nonfiction at Spalding University. He is the author of The Field Guide ToCovering Sports, published by CQ Press in 2010, and Monster Trek: The Obsessive Search for Bigfoot, published by University of Nebraska Press in 2016. He writes about sports journalism at SportsFieldGuide.org and on Twitter at @joegisondi. Formerly president of the Illinois College Press Association, he is now the executive director for both the Illinois Community College Journalism Association and the Illinois Press Foundation/EIU summer journalism workshop for high school students. At EIU, he teaches courses in advanced reporting, feature writing, sportswriting, and sports media. Previously, he worked as a sports journalist for more than 20 years at the Orlando Sentinel, Florida Today, Clearwater Sun and Fort Myers News-Press. He resides in Charleston, Illinois, with his wife, Betsy, and his two daughters, Kristen and Sarah. Research Interest
