Biography
Dr. Giacinto Libertini M.D., cardiologist, member of the Italian Society of Evolutionary Biology. My main scientific interests are: 1) the evolutionary determinants of aging, defined as the increasing mortality with increasing chronological age observable for many species in the wild; 2) mechanisms that determine aging, conceived as a function and not as the overall effect of various different degenerative phenomena; 3) evolutionary or Darwinian medicine. I am a convinced supporter of the programmed aging paradigm from 1983 and a forerunner of evolutionary medicine from the same year (www.r-site.org, my personal page, for references).
