Biography

Demosthenes Bouros, former faculty member of the University of Crete and the Democritus University of Thrace, is now professor of Pneumonology at the University of Athens, Greece, and director of the ILDU of the Hospital for Diseases of the Chest in Athens. He was trained at Harvard and Boston Universities, USA, and the Royal Brompton Hospital, UK, and awarded as Visiting professor at the Medical University of Vienna by the ERS. He is editor of a book entitled “Pleural Diseases” (Marcel Dekker NY, 2004, and 2nd ed, Informa NY, 2009), NIH (USA). He has published >400 articles, has >8.000 citations, H index 44 (Scopus), is/was member of the Editorial Board of many medical journals, including LANCET-Respiratory Medicine, CHEST, RESPIRATION, BMC series, etc, and Editor-in-chief of the bilingual Greek journal Pneumon. He has been section editor for pleural diseases update (Respiration, 2008), interstitial lung diseases (COPM, 2011 and 2012), Regenerative medicine and stem cells (Respiration 2013), and Pulmonary manifestations of CTDs (Respiration, 2015).  

Research Interest

Pathophysiologic/pathogenetic mechanisms and treatment of ILDs, including the stem cell research and application in chronic lung diseases.
