Born in Messina March 27, 1947, he graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Messina, Italy. His thesis in experimental analytical chemistry was entitled "The Antioxidant Power of quinoline and isoquinoline derivatives on l-ascorbic acid" and he is specialized in computerized elemental microanalysis.
