Biography
Professor Aviram was born in Israel (Kfar Kish, December 7.1948). He is one of the leading experts in cholesterol, lipids and lipoproteins oxidation (and antioxidants such as dietary polyphenols and paraoxonases), and a key contributor to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases research. Michael (Mickey) Aviram is theHead of the Lipid Research Laboratory. He is a full Professor in Biochemistry at the Technion Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Rappaport Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences and Rambam Medical Center, Haifa, Israel. Aviram is the Senior Vice Dean of the Technion Faculty of Medicine and a member of the Technion Council and Board of Governers. On 2008 Professor Aviram was appointed as the Director of the Clinical Research Institute at Rambam(CRIR), the major hospital of the Technion Faculty of Medicine. He completed a post-doctoral research at MIT, Cambridge ,MA. Over the years. Dr.Aviram is a member of the Technion's Selected Senate and during the years, served in the Technion Steering, Research, and Extended Studies Committees. He teaches Biochemistry to medical students. Prof Aviram supervised till now , the research of 30 undergraduate and graduate (MSc, PhD) students, as well as that of 50 clinician - scientists.
