Biography
Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology I and II in the School of Health Sciences at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (Lisbon, Portugal), member of IBEB (FCUL), Coordinator of Development of Delivery Systems Group (DDS, CBIOS, ULHT) and Director of Innovation of CBIOS (ULHT). Her doctoral studies were also undertaken at the University of Coimbra with several important international collaborations where she developed an interest in advanced drug delivery systems. Those studies have been recognized through a number of national prizes. She has continued to work in the design and evaluation of micro- and nanoparticles (metallic, polymeric, ceramic, lipidic, hybrid, etc.) for peptide drug and gene delivery (treatment and/or diagnostics); new methods of micro and nanoencapsulation of drugs, food supplements and cosmetics; in vivo efficacy and safety assessments using animal models; pre-clinical toxicity assessment and development of food supplements, medical devices and cosmetics. She is author or co-author of several articles, book chapters and inventor of 4 patents.
