Biography
Greg Haidemenopoulos graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He received a M.Sc. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering as well as a M.Sc. degree in Metallurgy from MIT in 1985. He continued his graduate studies at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT and he earned his Ph.D. degree in Metallurgy in 1988. His doctoral research was on the exploitation of dispersed-phase transformation plasticity and its effect on the toughness of ultrahigh-strength steels. From 1992 to date he is at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Thessaly where he serves as Professor of Physical Metallurgy. He is also directing the Laboratory of Materials at the same Department. His current research interests include the application of computational thermodynamics and kinetics for the modeling of microstructural evolution during materials processing and the design of alloys. He is also interested in the application of transformation plasticity for the development of automotive TRIP steels. Prof. Haidemenopoulos serves as a reviewer in several scientific journals in the field of metallurgy and materials engineering. He is the author of two textbooks on Physical Metallurgy and Welding (in Greek). He has been the principal investigator in a series EU and national research projects. He is a member of the American Society of Metals, the Metallurgical Society of AIME as well as founding member and former president of the Hellenic Metallurgical Society.
