Biography

Professor Peter M. Lalley received his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Neuropharmacology from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He received postdoctoral training in urinary bladder neural network electrophysiology at The U. Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he also served on the faculty. He was also on the Pharmacology Department faculty at the University of Florida Medical School, Gainesville, and Gastprofessor at the Universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen, Germany. He is currently a Professor of Neuroscience and Physiology in the U. Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His research is directed at brainstem network control of respiration, effects of chemical neuromodulators of respiration, and the effects of aging on respiratory neuromoduation. His particular focus for many years has been on the effects of opiates and serotonin on the rhythm and patterns of respiratory neural discharges in the brainstem and spinal cord.
