Biography
Dr. Park is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and Director of the Xenotransplantation Research Center (sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Korea), at the Seoul National University College of Medicine. The main theme of his research is immunological tolerance, especially on the role of regulatory T cells. He has studied in the pathogenic mechanisms of type 1 diabetes and the way to replacing beta cells by pancreatic islet transplantation. Currently, he is working in the pancreatic islet xenotransplantation and focusing on the experiments in non-human primate model for the clinical translation of islet xenotransplantation.
