Biography

The Association publishes its own scientific journal - The Asian Journal of Surgery which was begun in 1978 to provide a peer reviewed journal in which original scientific contributions in the broad field of clinical and experimental surgery could be presented. The Journal is indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI) Expanded, Current contents (Clinical Medicine), Index Medicus/MEDLINE and EMBASE. It is now the official journal of seven surgical fraternities in Asia, namely the Asian Surgical Association, the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Asian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, the Asian Vascular Society, the Association of University Surgeons of Asia, Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia and the College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. The Editorial Board now consists of an Editor-in-Chief, six Associate Editors, and 40 members, who are representatives from different specialties of surgery as well as from 9 countries and regions including Australia, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Mainland China, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and USA. The quarterly Journal has been established as the most important medium for the latest surgical advances and developments in Asia. It is published in the months of January, April, July and October. The Journal consists of a symposium focusing on a special subject in selected issues and section of Original Articles covering a variety of topics ranging from General Surgery to other specialties like Urology, Pediatric Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery. It also published Current Opinions, Reviews, Case Reports, Commentaries, and Congress Papers. The Journal has wide representation and coverage in terms of both scientific content and readership. Contributions to the Journal come from a wide geographical area. Besides authors from Asian countries, submissions are also received from Australia, Canada, India, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom, the United States and other countries. Currently, the Journal has a circulation of 1,350 copies reaching a wide range of countries including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, United Kingdom, the United States and others. The Journal is also distributed to hospitals and medical libraries in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
