Biography
Dr Zhang received her PhD in linguistics from the University of Hong Kong. Before joining CityU in the summer of 2006, she conducted research and teaching at the University of Hong Kong as Post-doctoral fellow and Honorary Assistant Professor. Her research draws on Conversation Analysis and Interactional Linguistics in examining Chinese language varieties (e.g. Mandarin and Cantonese) as it is used in everyday conversation and institutional talk. She has led a number of funded projects on topics such as conversational repair, turn continuation in conversation, workplace interaction, and published papers in refereed journals and edited books. She has supervised research students on topics of medical interaction, decision-making in meetings, and storytelling in conversation.
