Biography
Dr Annie CHU holds a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology and her specialty is in Genetic Counselling on Hereditary Cancers. She has worked in the field of genetic counselling and psycho-oncology since 2005, and had completed her training in Cancer Genetics at City of Hope, US. Currently she serves as the Clinical Psychologist at the Division of Breast Surgery, The University of Hong Kong. She provides genetic counselling, individual, couple, and family therapy for high-risk families (with BRCA1/2 and other related mutations) at the Multi-disciplinary High Risk Breast Clinic at Queen Mary Hospital and Tung Wah Hospital. She also involves in providing training and lectures to clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals in the field of psycho-oncology and cancer genetics. Her research interests and areas of publications include psychological and behavioural impact of genetic counselling and testing of hereditary cancer syndromes, and various ethical and psycho-social issues that manifest themselves along the course of hereditary cancers. Since 2015, Dr Chu also serves as the Director of Counselling Services at the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry, and devotes her time in public awareness campaign and fund-raising campaigns for the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry and its programme.
