Biography
Karen Cheung received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at Michigan State University (MSU) in the United States and had taught at elementary schools in the United States, South Korea, and more recently, Hong Kong. She fell in love with teaching English as a Foreign Language in Seoul, South Korea so she pursued a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at MSU. During her master’s program, she worked at the Center for Language Teaching and Advancement (CeLTA) and Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR) at Michigan State University. At that time, she has helped the university develop language learning technology tutorials as well as train teachers on how to incorporate technology into their lessons. She also helped in curriculum development for an online course in teaching language learners understand language proficiency, teaching methodologies for second languages, as well as language learning strategies. In addition, Karen worked for the English Language Center at MSU and taught both English for Academic Purposes courses as well as Intensive English courses.
