Biography
"Dr. Gladys Pak Lei Chong received her Ph.D in Media and Cultural studies and MA (cum laude) in Migration and Ethnic studies from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She has taught at the International School of Humanities and Social Sciences (ISHSS), University of Amsterdam and Amsterdam University College (AUC) before joining this department. Her research interests lie in power relations, process of subjectification, governmentality, cultural governance, youth studies, everyday life, globalization, nationalism, mobility, gender and the politics of identity. Some of her publications include “Driving the City: Taxi Drivers and the Tactics of Everyday Life in Beijing,†“Chinese Bodies That Matter: The Search for Masculinity and Femininity,†“Volunteers as the ‘New’ Model Citizens: Governing Citizens through Soft Power,†“Power to the People? Security, the State, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics,†“The Beijing Olympics and the Art of Nation-State Maintenance.†"
