Biography
Simon is a 30-year China and Asia business veteran, Mandarin speaker and long term resident of Shanghai. As President of Greater China region for Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) from 2000-2008, and prior to this as P&O Chief Representative in Shanghai, he led work on China market entry, strategy, Government Relations and building businesses in newly liberalizing and rapidly changing industry sectors in China. He has worked on more than £2 billion of joint ventures, M&A, investments, restructurings and projects in China and with Chinese companies. Simon is an Independent Director of Huaxin Cement (Shanghai: 600801), non-executive Chairman of BE Education and APAC Adviser to Old Mutual Global Investors (£30 billion AUM 2017). Previous roles included serving as China Advisor to private equity firm Cinven (Fund IV Euros 6.5 billion) and as non-executive Chairman China of Aggreko (LSE: AGK) and Modern Water (LSE: MWG). He served as Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai from 1997-1999, was made an Honorary Citizen of Shanghai in 2007 (29th since 1949), was a Beijing Olympics Torch Bearer in 2008 and was awarded an OBE in 2013 for services to UK-China business and to charity work. Simon attended Oxford University (MA); University of Pennsylvania (Thouron Scholar; MA, MS); Harvard Business School (PMD) and Fudan University (Mandarin).
