Dr. Carmen Wong

Biography

Dr. Carmen Wong obtained her medical degree at Cardiff University School of Medicine (UK) and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and medicine. She received her post graduate training in family medicine at the Oxford Deanery.  She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK) and has clinical experience in the National Health Service (England). She has extensive management experience of multidisciplinary teams and primary health care provision for communities and marginalized populations in London. Transitioning to Hong Kong has further developed her interests in cultural and institutional factors on health behaviours and outcomes.  The collaborative nature of her work extends across health disciplines, non-governmental and governmental health and community organizations and professional bodies. ​ Dr. Wong joined the School of Public Health and Primary Care under the Division of Family Medicine and Primary Health Care in 2010.  She has been Director of the Centre of Research and Promotion of Women’s Health since August 2011.

Research Interest

Research interest areas include infectious disease and medical education.  Specifically, this relates to the treatment of common primary care infections and conditions and enhancement of health education for patients and doctors in a community setting. Her research involves exploration of these themes, using a variety of epidemiological, interventional and qualitative methods in the following areas: Antimicrobial stewardship and infectious disease in primary care Health in the midlife transition: enhancing early education and intervention Patient and community empowerment and enhancing capacity in primary care
