Biography

Excavations may be the most obvious appeal of archaeology, but digging is only the beginning. The greatest joy lies in the process of creating new knowledge, and telling the stories we can find within ancient remains. Prof. Tang Chung studies pre-Qin history from an archaeological perspective. He places a heavy emphasis on direct observations of excavated artifacts and site remains, and has led more than ten excavations in Hong Kong, Macau and northern Vietnam in 1987-2006. As a specialist in close-up artifact photography, he has a growing database of over 156,000 photographs in archaeological research. He has published monographs and research papers on the Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age. Prof. Tang and his postgraduate students have founded Huaituhui, a student group for those who are enthusiastic about archaeology and public education. All members are trained as museum docents. They have so far visited archaeological sites and museums in Inner Mongolia, Henan, Guangdong, and Taiwan.
