Biography
Ruby L.C. Hoo is currently a assistant professor of Department of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. She received her MPhil and PhD in biological science at The University of Hong Kong in 2000 and 2003. She is then carried out her post-doctoral training at division of endocrinology at The University of Hong Kong.
Research Interest
Her research focuses on adipokines and hepatokines including adiponectin, fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 21 and adipocyte fatty acid binding protein (A-FABP) and their molecular mechanisms underlying obesity and its related cardio-metabolic complications. Recently, she reported that A-FABP is an important contributor to both LPS-induced acute liver injury and diet-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease by potentiating inflammation in hepatic resident macrophages, Kupffer cells. Pharmacological inhibition of A-FABP may represent a promising modality for obesity-related non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.
