Biography
Anton is a Research Affiliate within the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy. He joined Central European University in 2007 as a Research Fellow. Before he was a senior researcher at Central Research Institute for Water Resources in Belarus. He studied geography (BSc) and environmental science (MSc) at Belarusian State University and Lund University between 1995 and 2002, and undertook his PhD in environmental assesssment of carbon sequestration in urban ecosystems from 2003-2007 at Central Research Institute for Water Resources and Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. Over the past 10 years Anton has worked in a wide range of interdisciplinary projects focusing on mapping and spatially-explicit assessment of ecosystem vulnerability to global environmental change, adaptation of social-ecological systems and sectors (forestry, biodiversity conservation) and, more recently, also land-use planning and policies. He teaches courses on carbon sequestration and adaptation and adaptive management of socio-ecological systems.
Research Interest
Local sustainability, vulnerability and adaptation, governance of natural resources (forest, biodiversity, land) , adaptive governance , governance of accidents and environmental disasters, science - p olicy interfaces , environmental history, sustainable urban planning, strategic planning and curriculum development for environmental education.
