Marie-pierre F. Granger

Biography

Marie-Pierre Granger is Associate Professor, affiliated with three CEU units (School of Public Policy, International Relations Department, and Legal Studies Department). She received her Ph.D. in European Law from the University of Exeter (United Kingdom) in 2001, after undergraduate and post-graduate studies in both political sciences and law at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques (Lyon, France), Jean Moulin University (Lyon III, France), Aristotle University (Thessaloniki, Greece) and Montpellier I University (France). Prior to joining CEU in 2004, she held a permanent position as a Lecturer at the School of Law of the University of Exeter. At CEU, she teaches courses on European Integration and Governance, European Union Law, Human Rights, Law and Public Policy, Social Justice, and Public Administration. From 2005 until 2012, she directed, together with Imola Streho (Sciences-Po Paris), the annual summer course on Advanced EU Legal Practice, taught by the Total Law Team (led by J. Weiler, NYU); since 2006, she is the CEU coordinator for the Allianz Summer Academy on Europe, supported by the Allianz Cultural Foundation. She is a member of the CEU Equal Opportunity Committee, and of the CEU Self-Study Steering Committee. She also served for a decade as a member of the Summer University Board. Her research interests lie in the fields of European Union Law; European integration and governance; comparative public law; access to justice; judicial process; remedies; human rights and citizenship. She is particularly interested in interactions between law, policy and politics, and the role of law and legal institutions in the interactions between different levels of governance. She has published articles in the European Law Review, European Public Law, the Modern Law Review, Comparative European Politics, etc and she has contributed book chapters in edited volumes published by Oxford University Press, Hart, Bruylant, Edward Elgar, etc). She is currently involved in two EU funded research projects, in which she carries out research and management task, a large scale FP7 collaborative research projects on barriers to EU citizenship (bEUcitizen 2014-2017), and a H2020 collaborative project on developing a Theory of Justice for Europe (ETHOS 2017-2019). She also edited the wed-dossier Francovich follow-up which tracked the development and application of liability for violation of EU law.

Research Interest

Her research interests lie in the fields of European Union Law; European integration and governance; comparative public law; access to justice; judicial process; remedies; human rights and citizenship. She is particularly interested in interactions between law, policy and politics, and the role of law and legal institutions in the interactions between different levels of governance.
