Biography
Matthijs Bogaards is a visiting professor in the Department of Political Science at the Central European University. He joined from Jacobs University Bremen, where he was professor of Political Science for eleven years. A graduate from Leiden University, the Netherlands, Matthijs has studied and worked abroad for the past twenty years, earning a PhD in Political Science from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. He has published widely on political parties and electoral systems in comparative perspective and on the challenges of democracy in divided societies. His latest book explores the experience of consociational parties in seven countries. He has a special interest in African politics and will be the Van Zyl Slabbert visiting professor at the University of Cape Town from July to December 2015.
