Research Interest
Molecular pathology, metastasis, experimental cancer research, microenvironment. Cancer cells as well as their interactions with the host are key determinants of the outcome of the malignant diseases. Molecular processes during the malignant transformation of normal cells are well described but those which are behind the metastatisation are much less although this is which determines the prognosis of the disease. This group has a long track record of metastasis research based on what it is aimed at identifying genetic and molecular mechanisms of local dissemination and metastatization, cancer specific stromal alterations and tumor vascularisation. Research is focused on the most prevalent human solid cancers (breast-, lung- and colorecatl cancers), on those which can be considered orphan (melanoma, liver cancer or kindney cancer) and the unique hematological malignancies. Major aims of these translational studies are the development of novel diagnostic, prognostic and predictive markers to promote precision medicine.
