Biography
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a frequent and currently non reversible disease. It has become a major health problem. Progression of CKD is correlated better to tubulointerstitial than glomerular lesions. Progression of CKD is due to interstitial fibrosis and inflammation progression in the kidney. Dr Sophie de seigneux's SNF project aims at understanding the role of tubular cells in kidney disease progression to define new therapeutic targets in order to slow the disease. Tubular cells indeed produce ROS, inflammatory factors and may be one of the main actor in kidney hypoxia given their high metabolic activity. NADPH oxidase 4 is specifically studied, as well as the role of proteinuria on tubular cells and CKD progression.
